TrafficButter to launch crowdsourcing app to help solve Nigeria’s road issues
Traffic’s a bitch, we all know that. And anyone who’s been to Africa’s major cities would tell you no different. The popular Twitter account that keeps Nigerians in the know with their local road news, TrafficButter, and the existing JonnyWaka app are joining forces to develop a community-driven mobile app, officially called Traffic Butter Mobile App.
The team hopes to be Nigeria’s go-to source for all road information by making significant investments in technology, including tools for more stress free commuting.
The app is said to benefit from improved personalization and more interactive road traffic viewing or reporting than the original Twitter account.
In a press release the team elaborates on the venture’s latest development, “Our goal is simple; to help Nigerian navigate smarter and ease the traffic stress on Nigerians by providing on the go traffic updates through an easy to use mobile App that captures traffic updates, and presents them to our users in a concise manner.”
All updates will be crowdsourced in real-time by the commuters and the TrafficButter team. Interestingly, people are encouraged to participate via a contribution leader board and a points reward system. By partnering with local and international brands, points could then be used to buy physical goods.
Some noteworthy features include the ability to chat, comment and stamping a location for further credibility on traffic reporting. People who use the app will also be able to specify which roads they use and then receive automatic notifications accordingly.
The app will launch 27 February for BlackBerry, Android and iOS devices.
