Meet Africa’s top 10 exciting tech startups to represent at Dublin Web Summit

The Dublin Web Summit has announced its favourite startups that will be representing the continent, predominantly from Nigeria and South Africa, from 4 to 6 November 2014.

The annual summit is massive to say the least. The 20 000 expected attendees will be entertained by 400 speakers and 2 000 startups exhibiting over the weekend.

Some notable keynote speakers from across the world of tech and business include John Sculley, Former CEO of Apple, Peter Thiel of Founders Fund, Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon, Jay Bregaman, Founder of Hailo and Anna Patterson of Google.

The Web Summit describes the significance of diversity among the top African startups chosen this year:

“From the sands of the Sahara to the Western Cape of South Africa, these startups are lighting the way with their innovative ideas on how to change lives with technology. Ranging from online dating to a financial services app, to a company seeking to integrate technology into cleaning services, Africa’s diversity will be well represented at the Summit.”

Bsavi South Africa

Bsavi wants to revolutionise internet banking. The personal financial app aims to do all the hard work when it comes to saving as people spend money daily. It’s almost like a Mint alternative for South Africans.

Jampp from South Africa

Initially hailing from Argentina but operating across the globe, including Cape Town, South Africa, Jampp is designing a process that would streamline a company’s mobile app marketing process, from user acquisition to re-engagement. As described by the Web Summit blog, this is done by applying big data, programmatic buying and machine learning.

iMote from Morocco

iMote has developed a universal remote control keyring for your phone that allows you to easily track it when lost. With the push of a button, the iMote will make your phone ring, helping you locate it, whether it’s on silent or not. Other features on the iMote include ordering a taxi, playing music and checking in at locations on social media.

Friendite Global Limited from Nigeria

With over 75 000 users, Friendite is said to be one of the fastest-growing online dating sites in Nigeria. The site offers a wide range of features, providing a single space for members to find their match, share photos and videos, create events, blogs and groups, play games and read the latest news.

PushCV from Nigeria

PushCV is a database of CVs designed to help employers find the the best people to hire. PushCV also helps prospective employees develop their knowledge, skills and abilities while matching skills with relevant demands. According to the site, the service has processed over 41 000 CVs so far.

Smartbuy.ng from Nigeria

Smartbuy.ng is described as an online shopping mall that helps consumers find the best possible deals for computers, mobiles, electronics and so forth.

Sweepsouth from South Africa

Currently operating in Gauteng and Western Cape, Sweepsouth’s aim is to help professional cleaners access employment opportunities and allow homeowners to conveniently book their services. By bringing technology into the process, they hope to help modernise the domestic cleaning services industry.

Voise from Egypt

This seams like a really interesting one. The company is described as a social platform that facilitates discussions for creators and innovators. Moreover, it provides a space for new voices, as well as breaking news on a variety of topics.

8bit from South Africa

8Bit is no stranger to Ventureburn. Aimed at independent publishers, this is a native advertising and content discovery platform with a focus on emerging markets. 8Bit provides a suite of tools to online publishers that assists them in better understanding and growing their online audiences across various networks.

NileCode from Egypt

Nilecode is a multi-service web solutions provider that caters to domestic, regional, and international clients. It is made up of a team of young professionals seeking to ensure the best quality service for their clients using innovative and creative techniques.
