Twenty applicants will be selected to receive mentorship from Resolutions Circle and the University of Johannesburg’s tech incubator.

An awards panel of serial entrepreneurs and distinguished researchers will select eight finalists. Each finalist will receive R250 000, to demonstrate the viability of his or her idea. Ultimately, two winners will be chosen later this year when they will receive R1-million to further their ideas.

As you’ve likely picked up, the initiative aims to source and support new ideas and products that can be a breakthrough for the green economy in Johannesburg. Whether these are focused on buildings, energy, transport, waste or water, The Green City Startup wants to hear about them all.

Applicants must have either of the following in place: A revolutionary concept or an immediate concept.

Now, a revolutionary concept is described as an idea that may lead to a breakthrough new product or process, that is far-reaching and technically challenging. An immediate concept is an idea that’s ready to enter the market within the next 6 – 12 months, with a prototype already developed and a market clearly identified.

If this sounds like your kind of party, click here to enter. The submission deadline is 30 January.
