Moroccan healthtech startup MolDiag, and three Nigerian startups: Accounteer, E-pump and Termii have been selected as winners at two DEMO Africa tour events held in Casablanca and Lagos this week.
The Lagos leg of the innovation tour was held on Tuesday (3 July), and saw 14 startups pitch for a chance to represent Nigeria in the West Africa regional finals. A total of 13 companies pitched at the Casablanca event which was held on Wednesday (4 July).

The winners will now pitch at the DEMO Africa launchpad this October in Morocco. Applications for the 2018 Demo Africa are still open and will close on 15 July.

The successful startups in each region will automatically qualify to be part of the pool of 30 startups set to pitch at the DEMO Africa launchpad. Selected companies will be provided with resources worth over $150 000, including tools from Microsoft and Amazon Web Services to assist the founders in building their businesses.
Other startups that have qualified for the regional finals so far include Advanced IT Solutions from Kenya and Ugandan agritech TIFAT and South African companies Gethhosted and Loyal1.

MolDiag
Founded in 2016 by Abdeladim Moumen, Hassan Ait Benhassou, and Abdelahak Ammani, MolDiag produces affordable diagnostic kits to detect diseases and viral infections.
In a statement on Wednesday, Moldaig team leader Abdeladim Moumen said the startup is using “highly innovative technologies that are simple, accurate, patented, clinically validated and mainly very cost-effective”.
“Our tests will allow doctors to give the right treatment to their patients, to follow their treatment and to know exactly whether the treatment has been efficient or not,” explained Moumen.
Accounteer
This is one startup that is having a good year, just last month the cloud accounting platform was selected as the inaugural winner of the $50 000 MEST Africa Challenge.
Accounteer was founded in 2015 by CEO Merijn Campsteyn and currently services over 9000 businesses across 72 different countries.
E-pump
E-pump is a fuel station automation solution developed by Lagos-based Fuelmetrics, which was founded in 2014.
The two-tier system enables users to control and monitor forecourt components like fuel dispensers, fuel tanks, cash receipts, and vehicle identification system.
The solution also provides complete business reporting and intelligence system for monitoring sales, inventory, stock orders, customers, and staff for business decision making.
Termii
Marketing startup Termmi aims to help businesses acquire repeat customers across multiple marketing channels using its platform.
Since CEO Gbolade Emmanuel founded the marketing platform in 2014, the startup has gone on to help over 428 teams acquire more than 137 000 repeat customers.
