Weego, a collaborative transit app which enables users to track buses and trams in real time, has been selected as the winner of this year’s edition of Seedstars Casablanca.
Retail space marketplace Popaddress was placed second, while Zelij, a startup that produces ecological construction materials, came in third at the pitch event that took place last Friday (6 July) last week.

Weego will now represent Morocco at the Seedstars regional and global summits
In a statement today (9 July) Weego CEO Saad Jittou said he had been following the pitch competition for threee years and “never imagined that it would be up to me to win the regional summit and represent my whole homeland.”
“Being elected among the eight most promising startups in Morocco was enough for me, but Seedstars gave me a chance to compete with other regional champions and Weego is ready to take up the challenge,” explained Jittou.
According to local site Disrupt Africa, Jittou launched the transit app in Senegal earlier this year. Moroccan newspaper LeMatin today (9 July) reported that Jittou will soon launch the app in Marrakech, the fourth largest city in the country.
To use the service, users will have to pay a monthly subscription of $2.12 (20 Moroccan Dirham). Alternatively, those looking to use Weego’s service for free will be able to do so if they are willing to provide Weego with their GPS information.
Four other startups pitched at Seedstars Casablanca. These were waste management startup Valenvi, big data analytics company InDataCore, healthtech Medtrucks, and US-based fintech UnitedCoin.
Weego will now represent Morocco at the global Seedstars Summit, which will be held in Lausanne, Switzerland next year.
