  • Internet Solutions launches startup package

    Pan African telecoms service provider Internet Solutions recently announced the launch of IGNITE, a suite of technology solutions specifically aimed at startups. According to a press release sent to Ventureburn, the IGNITE package allows smaller, up-and-coming companies access to ICT infrastructure which rivals that afforded by big business. This infrastructure, it says, includes fast, easy, and affordable access to internet, billing, employee management and communications services.   • PE incubator gets new R&D lab

    The SEDA Nelson Mandela Bay ICT Incubator (SNII), based in Port Elizabeth, this week announced the launch of a Research and Development Lab centre, located on-site at its Newton Park technology office business park. According to a press release sent to Ventureburn, the R&D lab offers assistance and support to creatives, entrepreneurs, and small businesses in PE to design and develop apps, software solutions, as well as electronic and mechanical device prototypes.   • Giraffe receives undisclosed seed funding from Omidyar Network

    Recruitment service startup Giraffe has closed a round of seed funding from Silicon Valley-based VC fund Omidyar Network. The VC was established by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar. When inquiring about the funding amount, Giraffe declined to disclose the amount publicly. "Omidyar Network’s focus on job creation and particular expertise in marketplace networks makes them an excellent strategic fit for Giraffe," says co-founder and CEO of Giraffe, Anish Shivdasani.   • Harare will host third Capacity Development Forum in May 2016

    The third Capacity Development Forum (CDF) will take place in Zimbabwe's capital Harare from 2 to 6 May 2016. The conference will this year discuss the "developing capacity for Africa's economic and social transformation," and will explore "the major challenges and opportunities associated with capacity development on the continent, including youth employment, public, private and civil society engagement and domestic resource mobilisation," according to a press release.
