  • New mapping tool like Strava for public transport planners says GoMetro founder

Cape Town mobility startup GoMetro yesterday launched a new self-service application for transport planners to better map and plan transport routes. The startup will partner with Italian company GMG Technology to help distribute the app in foreign markets. Speaking at a launch at the MEST Incubator in Cape Town, the startup's CEO and founder Justin Coetzee called the new business intelligence and planning platform that his team has spent two years working on "like Strava, but for public transport". • Water crisis delays launch of GoMetro flx trial says startup founder

Cape Town smart mobility startup GoMetro has delayed the planned launch this month of the trial of its new ride-sharing service flx. The startup's CEO Justin Coetzee says the startup will instead launch the service next month. "Basically, the water crisis meant that corporates spent two or three months worrying about their water supply and their staff's welfare - so we hit a delay on the flx pilot," Coetzee told Ventureburn in response to an email yesterday. GoMetro's flx service aims to to offer employers a chance to get staff to work on time more affordably, by providing them with various shared transport options and by grouping staff members who stay near...

  • GoMetro wants to help firms generate millions from freeing up parking spaces

Each day thousands of Cape Town commuters edge their way to work in a snake of traffic that winds beneath the slopes of Table Mountain into a crowded city centre. Many will end or begin their daily commute in a parking space for which they, together with their employers can easily pay well over a R1000 a month for. This got GoMetro founder and former civil engineer Justin Coetzee thinking. "Why does it (your car) stand there all day, taking up space and just like ruining the view, killing us with fumes, killing us with unsafe driving. I mean we're addicted to cars," he charges. Coetzee reckons however...

  • SA startup GoMetro to be part of ICO run by UK internet of mobility company

Smart mobility startup GoMetro will be part of a UK initial coin offering (ICO) run by internet of mobility company Tsio Protocol, says the Cape Town based startup's founder Justin Coetzee. Coetzee told Ventureburn on Tuesday that GoMetro's new flex platform will form part of Tsio Protocol's minimum viable ecosystem and that the ICO will take place "towards the end of March". "They're raising it and we're part of their consortium," said Coetzee. "If they are successful in their fund raise, they will be integrating their token into our system," he said. It follows the announcement by Coetzee in November last year of plans to trial GoMetro's new...

  • GoMetro Traffic wants to help on your holiday journey

Just in time for the holiday season, GoMetro Traffic is an app designed for users travelling on roads. It is a spin-off of South African railway notification app, GoMetro. "We observed that other traffic applications are focused on navigation, and require a user to keep their GPS on all the time in order to receive traffic information.
