Inside DEMO Africa: an interesting look into Africa’s startup world

Last year the first ever DEMO Africa conference was held in Kenya featuring 40 startups from around the continent. Now, months later, African tech entrepreneur Jon Gosier and the AppsAfrica team have released a mini documentary showcasing a rarely seen part of the tech world, the startup ecosystem of Africa.

“Inside DEMO Africa”, features interviews with key players in the African tech ecosystem, from entrepreneurs to angel investors, venture capitalists, philanthropists, incubators and government officials.

The conference, which is part of the global DEMO conference series, touts itself as a “launchpad for emerging technology and trends”. The event believes that noteworthy startups are being created in Africa, developing real-world solutions, worthy of investment and global attention as well as becoming part of the global startup ecosystem.

The 23 minute-long documentary takes viewers inside the world of the 40 startups that participated at DEMO Africa, giving audiences some rarely experienced moments and insights into Africa’s tech startup scene.

According to the documentary producers, the conference “provided a platform for 40 of the most innovative technology products from companies across the African continent with the opportunity to launch before a global audience of investors, media, strategic buyers, C-level executives and other entrepreneurs.”

The documentary is part of the ongoing project, “Cheetah Code”, a web TV series that chronicles young African entrepreneurs and the continent’s emerging technology scene.
