Afrinolly taking on all platforms with Windows 8 launch
Watch out iROKO Partners, it looks like competition is finding its way to you. AfriNolly a platform dedicated to African entertainment especially that of Nollywood is stepping up its game with a new platform launch.
The Nigerian-based entertainment company has been beta testing its Windows 8 offering for some time now and has finally announced the launch of its Windows 8 app as well as a Windows Phone app.
Developed by developers at FansConnectOnline Limited in Lagos’ growing tech ecosystem, Afrinolly allows users to watch an assortment of Nigerian entertainment, such full length Nollywood movies, other African movies, trailers, short films, music videos and even full length Bollywood movies on smart devices.
The platform also doubles up as an entertainments news site for the latest celebrate gossip and industry happenings.
“Developing Afrinolly on Windows 8 has been an experience that was both challenging and interesting. Keeping our unified look and feel at the same time taking advantage of the key design principle of Metro; relying more on content and typography, was an interesting challenge. In the end we were able to build an app that is both clean and fast,” says Afrinolly’s Bobola Oniwura.
Afrinolly has been around for a while now and has more than 2.5-million downloads across various platforms: Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Nokia Symbian, Nokia S40 and Java. The company is poised to become a formidable competitor in the Nigeria entertainment consumption industry currently bringing Nollywood to people, especially Nigerians in the diaspora. What makes Afrinolly different is that it offers more than just Nollywood entertainment and does not just simply target the diaspora.
