Got a Video-ad? Learn from Blink Tower, use Google TrueView for best reach
So you’ve spent money making a video ad, but no one’s watching it. You’ve put it up on YouTube, circulated it to your email subscribers, tweeted those tweets, and clicked share ad nauseum, but the views just don’t reflect this. “The shares do not maketh the views,” as the saying goes. Well, this could be due to the fact that your marketing officer is ignoring potentially the best video-ad platform available on the internet – Google TrueView – and Cape Town-based Blink Tower is a great case study to prove its effectiveness.
An animated explainer video production company, Blink Tower has found that using Google’s TrueView advertising service exposes videos to a larger, more targeted, audience and is also a cost effective means of running campaigns because advertisers only pay when a video is watched.
Henk Kleynhans, business strategist and founder of internet company Skyrove, joined the Blink Tower team as Chief Marketing Officer, and recently ran a pilot campaign using the TrueView platform, he had this to say of the experience:
“We spent about R6000 to place our own explainer video as a pre-roll advertising on YouTube videos, and generated well over 40 times that much in qualified leads in just two weeks,” says Kleynhans. “The campaign quadrupled traffic to our website. It was obvious we should be doing the same for our clients.”
A second test campaign saw an 18% click-through rate, a result double what the Blink Tower team expected. Kleynhans attributes that to TrueView’s highly targeted audiences, “there is a good change that your video will match the viewer’s interests – and if it doesn’t, they can opt to skip the ad after five seconds. It’s as non-intrusive as video advertising gets. It’s equally good news for advertisers: they pay only when viewers choose to watch the whole ad, we’ve had a cost-per-click of less than a dollar so far.”
YouTube is currently the forth most popular website on the internet, as of the first of July 2013, indicating that leveraging TrueView is theoretically the best way to get a video ad watched by as many people as possible, never mind the other perks. If your company has a video (explainer or other), TrueView is the platform to gain the most effective exposure at great value for money.
Blink Tower makes simple, clear and entertaining animated explainer videos for companies, non-profits and government agencies. Some of its clients include Vodacom, The Shuttleworth Foundation, Zando and Stratus.
