SA tech company MySlips wants to manage your receipts the easy way

MySlips

MySlips is a South African service that lets you manage your receipts via your mobile phone. Though the competition seems tough, its vision is to make the process of managing products or services under warranty simple, intuitive and as painless as possible using smart applications and technology supported by business in general.

This is how it works. First, you take a photo of your receipt if the retailer isn’t capable of sending you a copy from the register. You’ll then have to email this photo to your personalized email address registered under the MySlip domain. You proof of purchase is then stored which can be accessed and managed by you at any time.

The company also notes that the legality of these electronically stored documents is up to scratch. MySlips consulted consumer watch specialists to ensure that all CPA (Consumer Protection Act) rights are maintained. In effect, MySlips then manages the warranties and guarantees available on products and services purchased on a regular basis such as computers, phones, home appliances, cameras, etc.

MySlips is available for R48 annually for smart devices. The pricing might seem steep at first glance, but consider the competition – something that there’s a lot of.

Available on iTunes for about US$2, Receipts is an app that automatically recognizes key information about your receipts after you’ve taken a photo. It also geo-tags your location and can swap between different currencies.

Another more advanced app called Receipts Pro has a host of useful and practical features such as creating and managing different accounts and receipt groups. With Receipts Pro, you can also crop, rotate and scale them and even adjust the brightness, contrast and saturation. It has cloud sync support and information can be exported to various formats including PDFs and Excel. One of its faults seems to be its exclusivity – the fact that you’ll have to pay about US$10 and that it’s only available on iTunes.
