How can digital entrepreneurs and startups use digital tools to scale their ideas beyond national borders?
Even if you live in one of the world’s larger markets, if you’re an entrepreneur it’s pretty likely that you’ll want your startup to scale internationally. After all, with global success comes the chance to go from being just another business owner to an entrepreneurial global superstar?
But how should you go about it? And what digital tools are at your disposal if you want to?
Those are just two questions that a Hangout, entitled “The new breed of social innovators: How can entrepreneurs use digital tools to scale impact?”, seeks to answer.
The Hangout is being hosted by the telecoms company Millicom and is in celebration of the launch of its foundation, which aims to help local social innovators find solutions to local problems. Millicom Foundation will invest in social innovators with digital ideas in Africa and Latin America backed by a US$10-million annual budget.
Speaking in the Hangout, will be Ory Okollah and Peter Eigen.
Okolloh is the Director of Investments for Omidyar Network’s Government Transparency initiative in Africa. She previously worked as Google Policy Manager for Africa and co-founded open-source software company Ushaidi. As a prominent figure on social media, Okolloh frequently speaks at conferences including TED, World Economic Forum and Mobile Web Africa. She also co-founded Mzalendo, a website that tracks the performance of Kenyan Members of Parliament.
Eigen is the founder of Transparency International, an NGO founded in 1993 that works to combat corruption by promoting accountability to international companies. Trained as a lawyer, Peter previously worked in economic development for 25 years, mainly with the World Bank in Africa and Latin America. Since 2007, Eigin has been a member of Kofi Annan’s Africa Progress Panel, using his years of experience to advocate for equitable and sustainable development in Africa.
