Crowdfunding t-shirt startup Design4T launches in South Africa
Design4T is a startup that enables groups, organisations to create and sell custom made t-shirts without upfront costs. The company also adds that local government and non-profits can use this innovative platform to raise funds for initiatives, a rather nice touch.
T-shirts have always been able to find their way into the hearts of young people. Come good, come bad, it’s always up to the customer and his or her unique taste. What is great about Design4T is that it gives the power to the customer when it comes to design with an added bonus of making profit.
Sellers can design and print on a variety of high quality pre-shrunk Fruit of the Loom shirts. Design4T guarantees that the t-shirts will printed at high standards of quality.

Claus Lauter, co-founder and director, explained the concept behind Design4T: “Design4T is unique in that it gives people a quick, easy and no-cost way to start earning money for a special cause or idea by creating and selling t-shirts online. The cool thing about this model is that there is no risk for the seller and buyer.”
Very similar to what SpringLeap did back in the day, the way that the model works is that the campaign creator designs a t-shirt using Design4T’s custom t-shirt building tool. That process takes place right in their browser and it is extremely easy to do. And voila, campaign page is created!
Once this process is complete, one must set a goal. The more t-shirts are sold, the cheaper each one becomes. Furthermore, the creator of the t-shirt does not need to worry about shipping and fulfilment as Design4T handles all of that, making sure that the t-shirts arrive around two weeks after a campaign closes.
Using the Design4T platform is 100% free. When a campaign has reached its goal, Design4T charges a fee for successful campaigns that covers the raw material, production, and delivery of each product. The seller chooses the selling price and keeps 100% of all profits.
