Transport service Old School Cool takes top spot in 702, Sage One Small Business Awards

Following the announcement of the CapeTalk and Sage One‘s small business of the year in South Africa’s Western Cape earlier this week, 702 has now named Old School Cool as the top venture of Gauteng for 2015.

The annual 702 Small Business Awards is the brainchild of payroll provider Sage One and radio broadcasters 702 and CapeTalk and seeks to recognise South African small businesses’ achievements and provide support.

As noted in a press release sent to Ventureburn, Old School Cool provides safe, reliable and personalised transport to school, extramural activities and so on, for children and first-year varsity students.

“Each year, we’re impressed by the quality of the nominations we receive from the public. There were so many hardworking, vibrant businesses to choose from, but Old School Cool stood out for the charisma and dynamism of its founder, Tiffini Wissing (pictured middle),” says Ivan Epstein (pictured left), the CEO of Sage AAMEA.

Out of a total of 424 nominated small businesses, Old School Cool managed to beat runners-up Ice ID and Beyond Ability Talent Solutions to the chase.

“Old School Cool stood out for the judges for many reasons,” says 702 station manager Pheladi Gwangwa. “They provide an excellent service, fill a gap in the market, have a strong business case, show much potential for growth.”

Old School Cool received an advertising package to the value of R250 000 on 702, while Ice ID and Beyond Ability Talent Solutions walked away with a R125 000 airtime package on the radio station.

Sage also awarded the winners in Johannesburg with a range of tools which includes free access to Sage One Payroll software, a training course and a laptop.

“This is amazing. Without my team, an idea is just an idea. This award is all for them and because of them. They’re phenomenal. Thank you, Sage and 702 for this amazing opportunity,” said Wissing, owner of Old School Cool.
