Tech4Africa announces Startup Day presented by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs
South African entrepreneurial platform Tech4Africa is adding a new event to this year’s schedule, named Yet Another Startup Event (YASE). Taking place 9 October after the main conference, YASE will take a “by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs” approach.
According to a press release sent to Ventureburn, the founder of Tech4Africa, Gareth Knight, says YASE will be run by those who have entrepreneurial experience. He found there had been a boot in startup events over the past few years, but most weren’t being run by entrepreneurs.
What’s been interesting for us is that when we analysed the landscape, very few of them seem to be run by people with real time in the trenches, and we think that time in the trenches is the only signal an entrepreneur should be paying attention to with all the noise we have today.
The speakers, consisting of entrepreneurs, will focus on topical problems such as the local landscape, bootstrapping, SME finance, how to raise capital, and business growth. According to the press release, the content will be “How-to” and while it’s open to everyone, it will be vetted to all for free flowing content.
Co-founder of Sw7, Keith Jones, adds entrepreneurs want to learn from other entrepreneurs:
We’ve found that entrepreneurs are driven to find people like themselves, and that the best value for time comes from learning from other entrepreneurs who have worked the same or similar problems before.
