Seedstars World announces 11 startups to pitch in Luanda, Angola
International pitching competition Seedstars World has announced the 11 pre-selected startup contestants for Luanda. The event will take place on 27 July in Luanda, Angola, at Banco Económico.
“This is our second year in Angola and we are looking forward to witnessing the exceptional talent that Angola has on offer. Also, we want to use our platform to showcase the Angolan startups on the global stage,” writes Claudia Makadristo, associate for Seedstars World Africa, in a press release to Ventureburn.
The 11 startups will pitch their business to a panel of judges and audience, with a short Q&A session following each pitch. The judges will then decide the Angolan winner for 2016.
The contestants are:
- Tupuca – online delivery service for food
- Ponto – online service helping customers relocate to new countries
- Manifesto – Angolan mobile news aggregator
- Kamputer – a low-cost PC
- Ingresso – a ticketing platform
- Wi-Connect – service looking to make internet free for Angola
- Nguimbi – an Afro-centric social network
- Buka – platform connecting those who want to learn with those willing to teach
- SAP-TECHNOLOGIA – online platform to hire local services
- SOBA – an online fashion company
- Kiandastream – African-centric music streaming service

“The number of applicants more than doubled for SSW Luanda 2016 and were keen to see higher quality pitches as well as innovative business models,” says local ambassador from Kianda Hub Dizando Norton.
Seedstars World Luanda is co-sponsored by the Angolan VC Fund, FACRA, and supported by Kianda Hub.
“It is with great pleasure that FACRA will partner with SeedStars for the 2016 event in Luanda and get the chance to know first-hand the innovative businesses of Angolan entrepreneurs and be part of a worldwide effort in promoting and empowering startups in emerging markets,” says FACRA representative, Armando Teixeira.
In addition to the overall Seedstars World prize, the organisation has partnered with TRECC to award US$50 000 to the best startup in the education space.
Seedstars World is also collaborating with Intel to find the best startups in hardware, IoT, Cloud, and analytics sectors.
