Seedstars World looks for its next Mozambique winner
Global pitching competition Seedstars World is on the lookout for its next startup from Mozambique. The event will take place on 15 July in Maputo.
“After kicking off last year’s Africa tour in Mozambique and finding a young but vibrant ecosystem, we can’t wait to come back and see the massive growth and development that has taken place in the country’s startup ecosystem since last year.” writes Claudia Makadristo, Seedstars World associate for Africa, in a press release to Ventureburn.
Up to 12 startups will be selected for the pitching event. The overall winner will represent Mozambique in the Seedstars World finals . The will compete against 64 other startups from around the world for a chance to win a US$500 000 equity prize.
Companies wanting to enter need to be in business for less than two years, have raised less than US$500 000 in funding, and have a minimum viable product. The startup’s product also needs to have existing traction in the market and has to be scalable locally or globally.

The Mozambique event will be supported by Standard Bank along with the local ambassador, UX Information Technologies.
“UX is bringing another opportunity for Mozambican entrepreneurs to shine at the global stage. This is one of many initiatives our company promotes in Mozambique to bring investment opportunities and exposure to local startups. We can’t wait to see what transforming ideas our youth has been working on!” says co-founder of UX Information Tiago Coelho.
Community events platform Moovi was selected as the Mozambican winner for 2015.
“It was beyond what I could have imagined it could be. The combination of great startup founders, mentors and investors made me realise that the event was worth way more than 1.5 M USD.” writes co-founder and CEO of Moovi Dario Mungoi.
