The initiative, which generated over 15o entries in its first season last year, is run by insurance company Santam, Stellenboch-based incubator Launchlab and innovation company Innovus. The campaign aims to encourage SA innovators to develop innovative safety and security solutions.

In all 15 to 20 finalists will be selected according to the originality and market attractiveness of their ideas. Submissions will also be judged on applicability and on how long it will take to get ideas to market. From this group a panel of experts will select the 10 best concepts which will receive funding to cover mentorship and incubation at the Launchlab.
How it works
The 10 best concepts will then participate in a 14-week Launchlab Knowledge Acceleration Programme where prototypes and high-level business plans will be developed.
Thereafter, the finalists will take part in a four to six month long countdown programme where participants will get extensive mentoring and coaching, after which the top final business plans will be presented to a panel of Santam and Sanlam investors.
The Santam Safety Ideas campaign is looking for innovative ideas with the potential to keep South Africans safe
To enter, applicants have to submit a video here explaining their idea. A workshop will be held on 24 August to help interested applicants to further understand the requirements.
Launchlab CEO Philip Marais said in an earlier press release that the incubator is excited to run another season of the campaign with Santam following the success of the first season.
“Santam is setting a great example for corporate South Africa on how to engage with and strengthen the local entrepreneurial ecosystem. We encourage all entrepreneurs to take advantage of this great opportunity,” said Marais.
