Students app, wedding platform among 10 startups selected for Harare Seedstars

A platform that allows couples to plan and manage their wedding and an app that allows university students to share projects, ideas, and opportunities.

These are just two of the 10 startups selected by Seedstars World, the global seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets, to pitch at Seedstars Harare 2017 this Friday (27 October).

The pitching event will take place at Impact Hub Harare. The 10 startups will battle it out for an opportunity to represent Zimbabwe at the Seedstars Summits in Mozambique later this year in December and Switzerland in April next year.

This will be the second Seedstars World event in Zimbabwe, with the first one having taken place last year in October.

“The first Zimbabwean Seedstars World Event in 2016 added value to our Impact Hub community and greater local ecosystem,” Impact Hub Harare co-founder Tadzoka Pswarayi said in a press release.

“Being part of a global movement of emerging market innovation ignited local startups and resulted in the emergence of new innovations that have the potential to deeply impact our communities. The event created symbiotic benefit between local and international entrepreneurs and investors, ” added Pswarayi.

Here are the 10 startups that have been selected to pitch at the event:

Commonground: Peer-networking app that allows university students to share projects, ideas, and opportunities.

Badala: Payment gateway that facilitates payments through a digital wallet.

Equities Nest.org: Investment platform that aims to help investors navigate African stockmarkets.

FundoLinker: Platform where schools, companies, skilled people and donors meet to overcome skill building challenges

JMP Africa: Energy startup specialising in distributed energy through on-site generation solutions.

Munch: An online food delivery app.

myRunner: An online bus-ticket booking platform and app.

Shirishanu: The company has developed Promoplus, a cloud-based SMS and social media platform.

Tipster: A news sharing platform that aims to empower anyone with a smartphone to become an amateur journalist.

Plan My Wedding: A platform that allows couples to plan and manage their wedding from logistics to invitations and costs all in one place.
