Internet service provider Liquid Telecom is on the hunt for the best African entertainment startup to join its Cape Town-based Liquid Launchpad — and startups have until Wednesday (11.59pm on 1 November) to apply.

The winning startup will get a six-month membership at the MEST Incubator in Cape Town where they will learn how to scale-up across Africa.

Five selected startups will get a chance to pitch at AfricaCom, with the winning startup entering the Liquid Launchpad

The call is open to startups that are developing innovations in entertainment technology, including: augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), gaming, and music technology.

Five shortlisted startups will be announced on Thursday (2 November) and will be asked to participate in a five-hour training session at MEST Incubator in Cape Town on Friday (3 November).

The session will cover opportunities and challenges for tech startups in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa. In addition, participants will also undergo pitch training in preparation for the final pitch event.

On 8 November, the shortlisted startups will then pitch at AfricaCom, one of the biggest telecoms conferences on the continent.

A panel of judges which will include Liquid Telecom chief technical officer Ben Roberts, Kwese head of Esports Bradley Kirby and MEST managing director Aaron Fu will select the final winner.
