Call for submissions for $1m Al-Sumait Prize for African Development

One lucky African entrepreneur or innovator with a cutting edge health solution stands the chance to win up to $1-million in prize money, with the launch this week of the Al-Sumait Prize for African Development.

The Kuwait Foundation of the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) on Monday (15 January) opened a call for nominations for the health category award in the 2018 Al-Sumait Prize. Applicants have until 30 June to apply.

The winner of the Al-Sumait Prize for African Development will get $1-million

Nominations are open to innovators or organisation who have developed innovative solutions to Africa’s health challenges.

The Al-Sumait Prize for African Development is awarded annually and aim to acknowledge and reward advances in food security, health and education in Africa.

In a press release, KFAS director Adnan Shihab-Eldin said this year’s prize aims to recognise innovators and institutions that have made a “significant advancement within the field of health and have produced seminal impact and tangible results in health-care systems on the continent, especially for the underprivileged”.

To be considered for the prize, nominees must be able to present innovative research work or projects that have achieved a high-impact.
