Seedstars, Omidyar Network to launch Seedspace in Dar es Salaam
Seedstars, the Swiss-based organisation that supports startups in emerging markets, has announced that it will next month — in partnership with philanthropic investment firm Omidyar Network — launch a Seedspace hub in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Seedspace Dar es Salaam, set to launch on 10 July, will become Seedstars‘ fifth such entrepreneurial hub in Africa. The organisation currently operates Seedspaces in Lagos, Abidjan, and Cairo, as well as the recently launched hub in Cape Town.
In a statement yesterday (26 June), Seedstars stated that the Seedspaces will increase the number of stakeholder events, programmes and training, with Seedstars as well as other partners such as Omidyar Network.
Seedspace Dar es Salaam will be Seedstars fifth hub in Africa
Romulo Navarrete, Seedspace head of operations, said Omidyar Network had played a “vital role” by supporting the opening of the hub “through which we aim to consolidate our activities in the country, providing Tanzania with access to a robust international community, more than just a space”.
“Omidyar Network and Seedstars have been major partners for many years. It made great sense now that we joined forces to provide a greater impact to Seedspace members,” said Navarrete.
He added that Seedstars is aiming to have 30 hubs around the world by the end of the year. Besides the five in Africa, the organisation has two hubs in Geneva, Switzerland (La Chevillarde and La Praille) as well as in Colombia (Bogota and Medellin).
The organisation will open its next hubs in Morocco and Myanmar.
“This expansion is pivotal so that we can bring more impact to local ecosystems while interconnecting the different locations, creating access to an international community of entrepreneurs, mentors, investors and corporates interested in innovation,” explained Navarrete.
Those looking to attend the invitation-only Seedspace Dar es Salaam launch event can register here.
