TIA calls on innovators to submit funding proposals for waste, water solutions

The Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) is calling on startups and innovators to submit proposals that tackle ewaste and waste beneficiation, as well as Acid Mine Drainage, water purification, water saving and repairing water leakages.

The deadline for proposals to be submitted and considered for funding is by the end of September. Funding of R650 000 and above will be considered for successful applicants.

Compulsory briefing sessions will be conducted across the country later this month to facilitate and assist applicants to understand the TIA application requirements (see below for dates).

To qualify for funding applicants must have developed a proof of concept (an idea that has been proven, validated and tested) for a technology solution that tackle these challenges. In addition, the solution must demonstrate a positive socio-economic impact.

TIA is requesting proposals for solutions that tackle waste and water challenges

The funding call is open to SA citizens that have already existing legal entities registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC). Applicants must also be or in a process of registering on the National Treasury’s Central Supplier Database.

Furthermore, all primary technology development activities must be operated within South Africa.

Applications will be assessed against:

  • Details on the proposed technology innovation
  • Intellectual property (IP): specific description of what the IP is, management strategy, IP ownership, proof of freedom to operate (if available)
  • Commercial: Market analysis and business model
  • Budget: Budget in alignment to the project plan
  • Team: Suitability and capacity of team to execute plan

The completed proposals must be submitted through the portal http://gms.tia.org.za/funding on or before 30 September 2018.

The briefing sessions will take place at TIA offices on the following dates: 27 August in Gauteng, 28 August in Durban and 29 August in Cape Town. Each session will run from 10am to 4pm.
