Seedstars World announces the 10 startups set to pitch at Seedstars Maputo
Seedstars World, one of the world’s largest startup competitions, has announced the 10 Mozambican startups that will pitch at Seedstars Maputo on Friday (28 September).
The 10 startups are set to pitch in front of a panel comprised of Standard Bank Mozambique head of investment banking Joao Guirengane, Savvy Venture Partners managing partner Thabo Ncalo, UX Information Technologies co-founder Borges Coelho, and Seedstars associate Maryam Mgonja.
The winner of the pitch event will win an all-inclusive trip to attend the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland in April next year where they stand to win up to $1-million in equity investments.
The 2018 edition of the Seedstars Maputo pitch event is set to take place this Friday (28 September)
In addition, the winning startup will also represent the country at the Seedstars Regional Summit set for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in December.
The 10 selected startups have developed solutions across the fintech, agritech, edtech, insurtech and healthtech verticals, among others. They are:
Bytecode Soluções Tecnologicas: Bytecode Soluções Tecnologicas has developed a payments gateway that integrates all payment methods within the same app.
Cotus: This Beira-based startup has developed a cloud-based platform that connects timely suppliers to buyer with the aim of promoting transparency and equality.
Huluka: Healthtech Huluka bills itself as a “hospital at your fingertips”. The startup’s app provides a convenient and affordable way to get help from medical professionals online.
Marra Lá: This edtech startup provides users with study materials, self assessment, feedback and tutoring online.
Output Tech Solutions: Output Tech Solutions has developed Xiphefu, a device that enables users to control their electronic appliances and devices from anywhere in the world using a mobile phone and without needing an internet connection.
ScripTech: This startup has developed M-Xitique, a platform that helps users to manage informal savings groups.
Startup Africa News: An online news platform that aims to be a one-stop destination that covers the entire startup ecosystem in Africa.
Umbrella: Through its app and website, this insurtech aims to provide users with third party car insurance as well as road side assistance.
WenaData: WenaData is an integrated opinion platform that aims to make it easier to collect statistical data.
New Tech Lab: This Maputo startup has developed agritech platform Agrolink. The digital marketplace aims to democratise access to information for all those in the agri-business value chain, and by doing so increase transparency on supply and demand while shortening the supply chain.
