SweepSouth wins best small business category at Savca Industry Awards
On demand cleaning service SweepSouth has won the Best Small Company category at the inaugural Southern African Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (Savca) Industry Awards, which took place at a gala event held in Johannesburg last Thursday (8 November).
Internet service provider Vumatel won the award for best medium-sized company, while outsourcing company Tsebo Solutions Group took top honours for the best large company category.
In all, nine companies were shortlisted across three categories for the awards, which aim to recognise portfolio companies that have thrived from private equity and venture capital investment in the region.
Aisha Pandor, co-founder and CEO of SweepSouth commented in a statement that it was an honour to receive the award.
The startup — which claims to have reduced the number of unemployed registered domestic workers by three percent, and currently employs 38 people as well as 8000 cleaners — was nominated by Edge Growth’s Vumela Fund
“This award is an honour not only for us, but our fantastic internal team and SweepStars, the hard workers who are the backbone of SweepSouth, as well.
Savca said since 2015 when the Vumela Fund came on board, SweepSouth’s annual revenue has grown by 1 050% over the term of the capital injection
“Thanks to their reliability and the stellar service they give to our users, word of mouth has been a major element to the continued growth of SweepSouth,” said Pandor.
In August, Savca CEO Tanya van Lill said the winners of the awards will be “distinctive businesses that stand out among their peers and demonstrate bold and authentic leadership, with a progressive culture that makes a wider contribution to society”.
Savca said since 2015 when the Vumela Fund came on board, SweepSouth’s annual revenue has grown by 1050% over the term of the capital injection, with gross profit having grown in this time by 100 times since the inception.
