Meet the 10 startups selected to pitch at the Africa Startup Summit in Kigali

Having received over 100 applications, the organisers of the inaugural Africa Startup Summit yesterday announced the 10 startups that have been selected to pitch at the event which takes place on 14 and 15 February in Kigali, Rwanda.

The summit is being hosted by Africa Tech Summit Kigali in partnership with tech publication Disrupt Africa and will bring together stakeholders across the continent’s tech startup scene.

Africa Startup Summit is one of three tracks at this year’s Africa Tech Summit Kigali, the other two are the Future Summit and the Creative Summit.

In a statement yesterday (24 January), the summit’s organisers said the 10 startups selected are expected to pitch in front of an audience of over 400 investors, corporate partners, accelerators and media.

The 10 hail from seven African countries and are active in the fintech, healthtech, agritech and mobility verticals. They are:

7keema (Egypt): An on-demand home nursing services platform which applies mobile, artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR) and telehealth technologies to assist patients, while offering higher incomes for nurses.

Appy Saude (Angola): This digital health portal allows users to identify and book healthcare service providers.

Complete Farmer (Ghana): Complete Farmer is a crowd-farming platform that enables users to own agricultural land and manage it remotely from their devices.

DéMars (Mauritius): DéMars is a next generation mobile phone payments network for micro payments. The platform is built using the latest blockchain technology.

Exuus (Rwanda): This fintech leverages the power of collective saving and a credit scoring model to achieve financial inclusion.

Jetstream Africa (Ghana): Jetstream Africa is a data-driven supply chain platform that enables food companies to buy agricultural products directly from African smallholder farmers and processors.

Leaf (Rwanda): Leaf provides financial services to the stateless and excluded through its blockchain-based virtual bank.

Moja Ride (Ivory Coast): This mobility-as-a-service platform integrates local payment solutions and modes of transportation to help users find, book and pay for transport in their city.

OZÉ (Ghana): OZÉ’s mobile platform empowers small business owners to make data-driven decisions to improve their performance and access capital.

RideSafe (Kenya): This blockchain-powered insurtech offers real-time health solutions to motorbike riders in the event of an accident.

The 10 will also have the opportunity to attend the other events at the other Africa Tech Summit Kigali tracks, where they will be able to participate in a variety of workshops and discussions.

Commenting in the same statement, Disrupt Africa co-founder Gabriella Mulligan said the organisers were “delighted” by the quality and quantity of applications to pitch at the summit, adding that picking the final 10 “was not an easy job”.

“However, we are confident the businesses we have selected to take part are a strong representation of the high levels of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit within the African tech space, and look forward to showcasing them to potential partners and investors at the event,” she said.
