UK’s StatsBomb acquires Egyptian football data analytics startup ArqamFC
Egyptian football data analytics startup ArqamFC has been acquired by British competitor StatsBomb. This, according to an article published earlier this week by tech publication Menabytes.
ArqamFC collects over 5000 data points every match and then sells the analysed data to football clubs, media organisations, players as well as agencies. The startup claims on its website that some of its clients include clubs in the French Ligue1, English Championship and Italian Serie A.
The Cairo-based startup was founded in 2017 by CEO Ali Elfakharany, COO Hesham Abozekry, and CCO Mohamed Osama.
As part of the deal ArqamFC’s founding team and staff will continue to work for StatsBomb
It is not clear how much the startup was acquired for, or when exactly the deal was concluded. However ArqamFC’s founding team and its 100 staff will continue to work for StatsBomb.
Menabytes reported in an article on Wednesday (8 May) that Elfakharany had told it that the deal is “less about financials” and more about aligning incentives for the future, and building together the industry leader in sports data and analytics.
Elfakharany further told Menabytes that the benefits of having been acquired by StatsBomb “far outweigh” any investment the Egyptian startup could have raised.
