Facebook has for the first time invited African startups to apply to join its 12-week London accelerator programme — for the third edition of the programme, which will launch in November.

The accelerator is aimed at startups from Europe, the Middle East — and now Africa — that use artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and blockchain.

Facebook vice-president for Europe the Middle East and Africa Nicola Mendelsohn said in a statement yesterday that selected startups will gain access to experts from across Facebook including those working in AR, blockchain and AI.

Applications for the third edition of Facebook Accelerator London will close on 18 October

Applications for Facebook Accelerator London will close on 18 October. Thereafter, the first part of the programme will run between 18 November and 13 December, with the second part taking place between 6 January and 28 February.

Those selected to join the programme will be required to attend three bootcamps that will take place between 18 and 22 November, 6 and 10 January, as well as 24 and 28 February.

The programme will be run in partnership with Founders Forum Group’s digital consultancy agency Founders Intelligence.

In addition to bespoke mentorship from product managers, data scientists, marketers and engineers — startups stand to benefit from workshops in product engineering, growth and impact.
