Egyptian on demand pet care startup Vetwork raises six-figure seed round
Egyptian on-demand pet-care startup Vetwork has raised a six-figure seed round from Cairo Angels, Misk 500 Startups, Khalid Al Tawil, Saleh Waheed in its first venture capital deal.
Cairo-based Vetwork was founded in 2017 by veterinarian doctors Abdelrheem Hussein, Fady Azzouny and Zeinab ElGeziry.
The startup provides users with access to on-demand pet care services that include pet grooming, dog walking and healthcare.
Vetwrok CEO Fady Azzouny told Ventureburn today that the deal, which also involved other Saudi angel investors (which he did not name), was concluded last week.

Azzouny said Vetwork will use the funding to expand to new cities in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The startup currently operates in Alexandria, Cairo and the North Coast in Egypt and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
“We are looking to expand fast and aggressively in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in 2020,” he added.
In addition, Vetwork will also use the funding to add more services so it becomes a “one-stop platform” for all pet owners’ needs.
Azzouny said his startup currently works with a network of more than 100 service providers and can cover up to 600 requests a day in both Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
He pointed out that in the last year alone, the startup has serviced more than 3000 pets in Egypt.
Plans to launch AI-powered diagnosis
Vetwork, he said, is currently working on an artificial intelligence (AI) system that will assist veterinary doctors in their diagnosis.
He explained that the feature will eventually be able to send pet owners a notification to book an appointment in instances when diseases will have been diagnosed.
The AI system will also help Vetwork predict diseases once it has enough medical data. Azzouny said the project is expected to be launched in June next year.
Vetwork graduated from Mint Incubator‘s Fall 18 Cycle last year. The startup was also part of the first cohort of the Misk 500 Mena Accelerator Programme.
