A map of social investors in South Africa
Social investment fund manager Tshikululu, has initiated a project to map the interventions of social investors throughout South Africa.
The project aims to develop an integrated picture of interventions from a multitude of funders and reflect a multi-sector response to a humanitarian crisis. The map is now live on the website and already includes social investments totaling R 1.6-billion.
The map indicates how social investors are providing aid during the pandemic
Nikki Griffiths, Chief operating officer of Tshikilulu explains the aim of the map/
“We aim to map the interventions of as many role players to show the picture of how social investors are participating in mitigating the effects of COVID-19. Mapping these responses will introduce a level of transparency and let all South Africans know the exact extent of what organisations are doing to help those most in need during this difficult time. We believe it will demonstrate the story of how South Africans responded when the country needed them most.”
With the Covid-19 pandemic wreaking havoc on the lives of South Africans, with an estimated 3-million people losing their job between February and April this year, various sectors have been prompted to provide assistance and mitigate the effects of the pandemic for the most vulnerable.
These sectors include non-governmental organisations, social investors, foundations, companies, funders, and more.
The data collected and created from the map will provide other sectors, organisations, and associations in their decision making and fund disbursement.
Social investors are invited to participate in the initiative by including their interventions or if you would like more information on the project, simply send an email to datamapping@tshikululu.org.za.
