Edtech platform launches university ranking service for SA students
StuDocu, a higher education edtech platform launched a university ranking service for South African students, and this has enabled these students to rank local universities. The overall result of the rankings placed the University of Pretoria in the first place when ranked next to other local university institutions.
The University of Pretoria took first place when compared to other local universities
This is the first time that South Africa has been included in the annual StuDocu World University Ranking. With a reported 100 000 users in South Africa. The ranking highlights current students experiences and opinions of universities.
Marnix Broer, CEO and co-founder of StuDocu comments on the most recent inclusion of South Africa in their annual ranking report.
“We are very excited to have been able to include South Africa in our StuDocu World University Ranking this year. Across the board, South African students ranked their universities highly, which is great to see, giving the highest marks to the categories of sports, safety and location. Unfortunately, dating on campus didn’t fare so well, garnering the lowest rankings in general.”
The ranking
According to reports, a total of 254 local universities were ranked by current students and recent graduates. The universities were ranked based on 16 categories from campus safety to a range of other categories. The ranking result aims to provide a useful resource for other students on what they can expect from a university.
Not only does the ranking focus on academic quality but also overall campus life from the quality of the food to housing and overall campus culture.
Students were required to rate the likelihood that they would recommend their current university to family and friends. The results showcase that the University of Pretoria, University of Johannesburg and University of Cape Town fell within the ‘highly recommend’ category.
