East African start-ups can apply to pitch at AfricArena event
With its East African summit now just three weeks away, AfricArena has announced the names of the first high-profile speakers who will travel to the Kenyan capital for the two-day event.
Enza Capital chief executive Mike Mompi and Xebula Tech Limited founder Fumi Aoki will attend the summit on Tuesday, 4 and Wednesday, 5 October in Nairobi. The event is powered by iHub, Enza Capital and Startupbootcamp.
“The two-day conference will feature pitches from more than 20 start-ups operating in East Africa, between the seed and growth stages, as well as keynotes and panel discussions from the top minds in business, tech, and investment in the region,” vows Christophe Viarnaud, the founder of AfricArena and chief executive of technology firm Methys.
East African start-ups who wish to showcase their innovative tech businesses are encouraged to apply to pitch to a room full of investors during the summit. This, as early-bird tickets can now be bought for the event held at iHub Junction, a Nairobi-based centre dedicated to accelerating the application of social capital and technology for economic prosperity.
AfricArena’s upcoming East African summit follows last month’s sought-after West African event series held in the Tunisian capital. Viarnaud describes the Tunis event as a mobilisation of investors from different corners of the region which “brought tremendous value by connecting the most promising start-ups in the ecosystem to some of the most prominent and sought-after investor funds.”

Meanwhile, AfricArena also invite start-ups from Tanzania to apply for the FMO Sustainable Tech Open Innovation Challenge. Selected founders will be invited to pitch at the Nairobi event.
The FMO Sustainable Tech Open Innovation Challenge will support several agritech, fintech, and energy-access businesses focused on Tanzania, specifically. Interested start-ups can apply and possibly qualify for several benefits from the Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank.
Winners of the East African summit will go through to AfricArena Grand Summit 2022 held on Tuesday, 8 and Wednesday, 9 November in Cape Town. The three-day conference will feature pitches from more than 65 high-potential start-ups from across the continent.
