African start-ups can now apply for Hamburg Landing Pad
African greentech start-ups are encouraged to apply for Scaleup Landing Pad Hamburg, an initiative by Hamburg Invest that provides customised services worth up to €50 000 (about $54 000) for fast-growing companies.
The programme aims to connect scaleups with relevant companies in the Hamburg metropolitan region in Germany and support them in further developing their business in the Hanseatic city with economic success. Applications are open until Sunday, 30 April 2023, and selected start-ups will receive tailored services and personal support until the end of the year.
The Hamburg senator for economic affairs, Melanie Leonhard, emphasised the need to attract fast-growing greentech companies that use innovative technologies to develop sustainable approaches to address the challenges facing the city and the world.
Hamburg offers internationality, quality of life, and an innovative environment, making it an ideal location for scaleups to expand their businesses.
Scaleup Landing Pad Hamburg provides further momentum to attract such companies to northern Germany and supports them in tapping into the Hamburg ecosystem locally.
The programme is open to international scaleups with innovative greentech products that have demonstrated business success in their home market, are in a strong growth phase, have not yet established themselves in Germany, and show their intention to tap into the Hamburg ecosystem locally. All submissions will be judged by a panel of experts, and the first admission phase and onboarding will start in May 2023.
Participating scaleups can choose from four components offered through a curated network of external service providers with Hamburg expertise: business development, living and workspace, location consulting, and business services. The programme is unique in Germany in its services and needs-based flexibility, and it will continue to strengthen Hamburg’s innovation ecosystem.
The programme’s main objective is to integrate international scaleups and pioneering projects into Hamburg’s innovation landscape and make the city’s strengths and assets easily accessible as a starting point for scaling up business. Conducted by Hamburg Invest on behalf of the ministry of economics and innovation, Scaleup Landing Pad supports growing greentech companies from the mobility, logistics, energy, and construction sectors to expand their business from Hamburg into Germany and Europe.
African greentech start-ups have a significant role to play in addressing the challenges facing the continent and the world, such as climate change, energy poverty, and environmental degradation. The programme provides an opportunity for these start-ups to expand their businesses and tap into the Hamburg ecosystem, which offers an innovative environment, an excellent quality of life, and access to international markets.
The customised services offered by the programme will enable African greentech start-ups to grow their businesses and develop sustainable approaches that address the challenges facing the world.
