Nigerian foodtech start-up Vendease honoured by WEF

Vendease, a Nigerian foodtech start-up, has been awarded as a 2023 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The WEF’s prestigious annual list recognises companies that are at the forefront of technological innovation and have the potential to make a significant impact on society and business.

According to Tunde Kara, CEO of Vendease, being selected as a Technology Pioneer is an honour and testament to their commitment to solving pressing challenges in the African food sector.

“We are honoured and excited to join the prestigious World Economic Forum’s Technology Pioneer community,” said Kara.

“This recognition is a testament to our commitment to solving pressing challenges in the African food sector, particularly in the areas of food waste reduction and product innovation across the demand and supply sides of the food services ecosystem.

Verena Kuhn, head of innovator communities at the World Economic Forum, expressed enthusiasm about welcoming Vendease to the 2023 cohort of Technology Pioneers. “We’re excited to welcome Vendease to our 2023 cohort of Technology Pioneers,” said Kuhn.

The Technology Pioneers community, launched in 2000, consists of early-stage companies from around the world that are involved in designing, developing, and deploying new technologies and innovations.

These companies are poised to have a significant impact on business and society. As a Technology Pioneer, Tunde Kara and Vendease will have the opportunity to engage with global leaders and contribute to addressing key industry and societal issues.

Vendease, founded in 2020, aims to revolutionise the way restaurants in Nigeria and across Africa procure supplies, access financial services, and streamline their business operations. The start-up leverages intelligent data to enable restaurants to access working capital, manage cash flow, and facilitate digital payments. Vendease also provides a range of business operations support, including inventory management, sales analytics, and customer relationship management tools.

The World Economic Forum, committed to improving the state of the world, serves as the International Organisation for Public-Private Cooperation. By engaging political, business, and other societal leaders, the Forum aims to shape global, regional, and industry agendas.
