There’s a Startup Weekend happening in Mauritius
There’s a Startup Weekend in the island nation of Mauritius taking place from 15 to 17 July at the BPML CyberTower 1 in Ebene. The event is expecting around 60 participants, including entrepreneurs, professionals, and students.
Those participating will pitch their business ideas for a startup company. They will then need to form groups in order to develop a working prototype. On Sunday evening, teams will pitch their business to a panel of judges who will decide the final three winners.
All teams will have the opportunity to receive free mentorship and feedback on their projects from professionals. The coaches will include the likes of Catherine Mitaine, co-founder of Invest Place; Dale Smith, managing director at WebWorX Ltd and Marie Espitalier-Noël, corporate financial officer at ENL.
The event’s organisers include OTAM, CCI France Maurice & MITIA, in partnership with the Ministry of Technology, Information & Communication.
According to a press release sent to Ventureburn, the information and technology sector in Mauritius contributes 6.7% to the GDP, with a turnover of US$1-billion. It also directly employs 15 000 people.
Those interesting in joining the event can find out more information on the Startup Weekend website.
