Here are the 11 startups pitching at Seedstars World in Ethiopia
International pitching competition Seedstars World is heading to Addis Ababa, Ethiopa on 14 September to crown the country’s top tech startup of 2016.
The goal of the competition is to find the top startups from over 60 countries. The winners will then head to Switzerland in 2017 to compete for a US$500 000 equity prize.
There is also a range of other prizes available, such as the Intel Solutions Challenge, which looks to find the best startup in hardware, IoT, Cloud, or Analytics.
“We are very excited to bring Seedstars World for the second time to Ethiopia. Last year we were impressed by the quality of the startups and the industries they were trying to disrupt,” says an associate at Seedstars World, Selam Kebede, in a press release to Ventureburn.
Kebede said that they were looking forward to more “out of the box, exciting solutions” at the event.
The 11 startups are:
- Kale General Electronics plc – a solar-based startup for poultry incubation
- VitaBite Nutrition – nutrition platform for parents and their newborn babies
- GurshaRides – ride sharing platform for cultural rekindling and social bonding
- Simbir – mobile fintech platform for a multitude of financial uses
- Yeneta (Haletatech Solutions) – management software for educational institutions
- Abithrone – big data company for farming practices
- ZayRide – and app for an-demand taxi service
- MelaHub – online platform that can be customised to a range of system needs
- Addistag Systems PLC – book distribution platform
- Stavimer – an easier way to share local talent
- Hulubet – event management marketplace
“We have a great experience working with Seedstars World in the past two years. We are very excited about this year’s competition as well. Startups in our community hugely benefit from this initiative and gain impactful support and networking,” explains co-founder of Ice Addis, Markos Lemma.
The event will take place at Ice Addis, who is co-organising it. It will also be supported by XHub Addis, VC4Africa, 251 Communications, EastAfrica Gate, Krimson PLC, EIABC, Ethiopian Architects, DesignWeek and AddisInsight.
Last year’s winner was mobile learning platform, AhadooTec.
