Wutiko wins Seedstars World Dakar

Online job portal, Wutiko has won Seedstars World Dakar and will go on to represent Senegal in the final pitching event in Switzerland next year.

This leg took place in Jakkolabs, carried out with support of Concree as well as Orange and Microsoft. The event was also supported by Jokkolabs, Brussels Airlines, Myriad Group and VC4Africa.

Wutiko is a job-seeking platform that uses machine learning technology to help consumers find suitable employment. They were closely followed by two other contestants.

Coming in second and third respectively are:

Sharek – A file-sharing app which allows users to share large files between Android devices as well as from Android to iOS.

Weebi – A tech product which helps shop owners keep track of client debt

Wutiko has secured their spot in the Seedstars World final, taking place in Switzerland in April 2017

Wutiko will be joining 60 other winners during their week-long training programme in Switzerland. On the final day of the programme, they’ll have the opportunity to pitch before thousands of attendees with the chance of earning up to US$1-million in equity investment.

Next up for Seedstars World will be Harare, where local startups will compete for the opportunity to represent their nation at the final next year and pitch among other representatives such as Wutiko.

Startups wanting to compete in these pitching competitions must be able to address regional issues as well as develop their product for the global market.
