Here are the five startups shortlisted for the Accenture Innovation Index Awards

Business consultancy firm Accenture has announced the finalists of the 2017 Accenture Innovation Awards. At least five of the selected finalists are startups.

The startups will get to present at an exclusive invitation-only Accenture Innovation Conference to be held on 17 October in Johannesburg.

Accenture’s Innovation Index aims to provide an in-depth analysis of South Africa’s state of innovation with the intention of rewarding innovative and disruptive enterprises.

A statement on Accenture’s site states that over 70 businesses registered on the index.

The five startups have been shortlisted in the emerging enterprises and small enterprise categories.

Here are the five startups:

ColonyLive: This software as a service messaging platform was conceptualised in 2015 and aims to assist radio and television broadcasters engage with their audiences. ColonyLive is used by broadcasters in South Africa and in the USA.

The startup was founded by Marco Broccardo. ColonyLive is one of three startups to be shortlisted in the emerging enterprises category.

ThisisMe: The fintech startup has been shortlisted in the emerging enterprise category for its Fast FICA concept which it claims enables businesses to complete the FICA process in under three minutes.

In addition ThisIsMe’s Fast FICA concept aims to reduce fraud, automate FICA checks and improve on-boarding of clients by banks while providing a seamless customer experience.

Conceptualised in 2013, ThisIsMe was founded by Juan Furmie and David Thomas and was formally established in 2014.

Solar Turtle: This multiple award-winning startup converts shipping containers into small, mobile solar power stations.

Solar Turtle was founded by James Van Der Walt around 2013. It has also been shortlisted for the emerging enterprises category.

HearX GroupFounded in 2013, HearX aims to provide affordable access to hearing care through digital solutions. The startup has developed HearScreen TX, an application that allows users to conduct hearing tests on a smartphone.

HearX Group was founded by De Wet Swanepoel and Herman Myburgh. The startup has been shortlisted in the small enterprises category.

CrashDetech: CrashDetech has developed an application that detects serious vehicle crashes and reduces response times by pinpointing the crash location. CrashDetech was founded by Jaco Gerrits in 2015. The startup has been shortlisted in the small enterprises category.
