African startups have just one day left to apply to attend EU-Africa startup fair
Want an all-expenses paid trip to Abidjan to showcase your startup? You better hurry. There is less than a day left to apply to attend the Startup Fair at the sixth EU-Africa Businesss Forum.
The European Commission will foot the travel and accommodation costs for 50 Africa based tech entrepreneurs (up to two people per startup) looking to pitch to investors and showcase their services and technology during the EU-Africa Business Forum to be held next month in Abidjan on 27 November.
50 winners will get an opportunity to showcase their innovations at the EU-Africa Business Forum Startup Fair
Emma Fau Startup Europe Africa Network (SEC2Africa) co-founder and lead organiser of the Startup Fair told Ventureburn in a call that the fair would have “very good representation of African and European business representatives”.
“We cannot promise there will be investment (deals) considering that this is based on the pitches, but we will do our best to facilitate interaction with investors,” she added.
In addition, Fau said a number of events focusing on entrepreneurship and the digital economy are scheduled to take place during the forum including panel discussions on policy and investment.
Applications are open to disruptive startups working in the following sectors: finance, health, education, agriculture and fisheries, energy, ecommerce, government, climate, and connectivity.
Interested candidates have to prove that they are ready to scale their business within the EU or in Africa. In addition, they have to demonstrate traction, a working solution and a ready market for their innovations.
A selection panel comprised of representatives from the European Commission, the AU, Orange, Wayra and Startup Europe Africa Network will pick the winning startups.
The selected winners will be announced next Tuesday (31 October) and will be in Abidjan between 25 November and 28 November.
