Healthtech accelerator Digital Health Cape Town opens call for applications

Digital Health Cape Town (DHCT), a new healthtech accelerator set to launch at the end of January next year, has opened applications to its accelerator programme.

In a press release sent to Ventureburn today, the accelerator stated that its accelerator programme aims to develop and scale local healthtech innovations into sustainable businesses.

Applications to the programme are open to established healthtech startups that develop solutions around patient engagement, care coordination, population health, clinical decision support and behavioural health.

Interested startups have until 5 December to apply, with the first cohort members to be selected by a panel that will include representatives of the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), Wesgro and the South African Medicines Research Council.

The 10 participants in DHCT’s first cohort will each get R150 000 in enterprise development funding

“DHCT’s Accelerator Programme is an opportunity to unearth the exceptional talent and innovation we have in South Africa.

“TIA took the decision to participate on the panel of judges because it fits in with our mandate to stimulate technological innovation and we are excited to contribute to the growth of local digital health startups,” TIA’s Innovation Skills Development programme manager Karen Eksteen said in the same release.

Only 10 successful applicants will be selected for the DHCT Accelerator Programme which will run over 10 weeks. Each of the participants will receive R150 000 worth of enterprise development funding.

The accelerator programme will include mentorship in health care and entrepreneurship. The programme is structured in a way that will enhance participant’s knowledge across ideation, business management and strategy execution.

In addition participants will also get access to industry experts, local partners and investors.
