Up to 100 startups to be selected for next month’s Africa Moves’ Big Summit
Up to 100 African startups will receive an all-expenses paid invitation to attend the Africa Moves’ Big Summit which takes place between 17 and 21 June in Tunis, Tunisia.
The five-day event will bring together startups, investors, innovation experts, as well as tech enthusiasts from across the continent and the world with the aim of getting them to exchange ideas and build connections with one another.
The Big Summit will feature a three-day forum that will include roundtable discussions and keynote speeches that will tackle challenges faced by African countries, a tech and innovation exhibition that will span three days, as well as a hackathon and startup challenges.
Applications for startups to attend four Africa Moves events, including next month’s The Big Summit in Tunis, will close on Sunday (12 May)
Revenue generating tech startups, as well as those tackling sustainable development issues are invited to apply.
For their applications to be considered, startups must be registered on the continent or have been founded and managed by an individual from the African diaspora.
In addition, the startups — which must be under three years old — must have solutions or products that are applicable anywhere on the continent.
Africa Moves VP for growth and president of the startup selection committee Rodrigue Fouafou will lead a team of 12 that will select the 100 African startups that will attend the summit and the other 230 that will attend three other Africa Moves events later this year.
Last Thursday (2 May), Fouafou said that as the African startup community develops and expands, the Africa Moves initiative is an important element in advancing the community’s “dynamism”.
“The diverse team and I look forward to selecting the best startups on the continent for this initiative,” he added.
Those selected to attend the event will receive an all-inclusive benefits package that includes flights, accommodations, meals and a pass to the event.
The startups will be granted an opportunity to pitch to the 100 investors expected to attend the Entrepreneurship and Diversity Network organised event, as well as potential customers and partners.
Each of the startups will also have their solutions or products showcased at the event. In addition, those selected to attend the summit will each be granted $1000 Microsoft Azure Cloud credits.
Africa Moves is also using the call for applications to select:
- 50 startups to attend The Business Tour in Singapore between 16 and 20 September
- 50 startups to attend The Innovation Days conference in Dakar on 20 and 21 November
- 30 startups to pitch at the Africa Moves Pavilion at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Las Vegas 2020
