Third annual Africa Fintech Unconference to be held in September in Uganda
African fintech companies Nomanini, MFS Africa, and Tugende has announced that it will host the third annual Africa Fintech Unconference (AFU19) on the shores of Lake Victoria in Uganda, between 10 and 12 September.
In a statement last week, Nomanini said the event will be themed “Collaboration for Innovation: Fostering Partnerships for Advancing Digital Financial Inclusion”.
This year’s edition, the company added, will create an opportunity for fintech innovators, financial institutions, investors and thought leaders to work together to improve financial inclusion across the continent.
Applications for African Fintech Unconference scholarships will close on 9 August
Nomanini said the agenda of the AFU19 will be guided by African fintech innovators and entrepreneurs.
The firm said unlike traditional conference formats, AFU creates a space for open, dynamic dialogue and valuable spontaneous interactions.
“It enables participants to co-create the agenda and lead sessions, allowing the most important and pertinent sub-themes to emerge organically,”
Previous topics at the event have included:
- Regulations and legal grey areas
- Managing growing pains on the path to scale
- Providing analogue vs. digital credit
- Development of industry partnerships
- Funding and choosing the right investors
- The role of boards
- Inclusive fintech solutions.
Scholarship opportunity
AFU offers a number of scholarships to early-stage fintechs.
These scholarships cover the costs of the event ticket, three nights of accommodation and return flights to Kampala.
The scholarships are meant to enable young players to learn from an connect with leading financial services and fintech experts in Africa, as well as participate in driving and shaping the fintech community.
Applications for the scholarships will close on 9 August.
