Villgro Kenya calls on startups with Covid-19 innovations to apply for funding, support

Impact investor Villgro Kenya has called on African startups with innovations that could help in treating, testing, monitoring or other aspects of the Covid-19 outbreak to apply for funding and support.

Villgro Kenya, which was set up by India’s Villgro Innovations Foundation in 2015, supports healthcare and life science startups in the East African region. It works to transform product and process innovations into viable and scalable businesses that impact those at the base of the pyramid.

The investor said in an announcement on its website that to date it has deployed about $650 000 in seed funding to companies in the East African region. These investments have catalysed over $7.5-million in follow-on investments while improving the lives of over 1 million people.

Villgro Kenya invites startups from Sub-Saharan Africa with technologies and innovations that could help in treating, testing, monitoring or other aspects of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Applications close on 15 April.

• Personal protective equipment
• Screening and testing
• Emergency and health system response including infection prevention and control
• Medical devices and commodities
• Medical supply chain strengthening
