London calling: 11 SA entrepreneurs head to the UK
Silicon Cape, in partnership with Western Cape Provincial Government and the South African Chamber in the United Kingdom takes eleven entrepreneurs to London this week to expand their ecosystem of funders, mentors, partners and peers.
“The objective of this trip is simply to give the eleven businesses attending access to people, information and experience that will make their companies even more successful,” says Rob Stokes, chairman of the Silicon Cape Initiative.
“We have utilized our network in the UK to get our local business leaders in front of people who are keen to do business with IT companies in the Western Cape. There is a full itinerary of investors, mentors, entrepreneurs, acceleration and innovation labs and we have even managed to fit in tickets to Rugby at Twickenham,” says Rob Gilmour.
The companies that will be going to London include:
Afrozaar (Baobab Suite) — Content redistribution and publishing across native app platforms
Flickswitch — Prepaid data SIM card management
Fraxion — Spend management software
Halcyonetic Studios — Graphic, Usable, Innovative Software
Tr3dent — 3D Business Visualisation Solutions
Korwe — Mobile enterprise and data personalisation
Moneysmart — Online PFM tool
Mytcg Tech — Mobile Trading and collectible card games
RSA Web — hosting, connectivity and cloud solutions
Studentology — student marketing company with mobile payment solution
TIA — Technology Innovation Agency
Some of the key meetings to take place include the companies pitching to Permjot Valia and Mambo Mentors, meeting with Deloitte, Standard Bank, Blackberry & Google. They will be attending various networking functions as the Silicon Drink About, spending time with Sanlam and local South African success stories like Ad Dynamo. They will also be visiting Tech City and the Oxygen Acceleration Innovation Lab to name a few.
“We hope that this trade mission will be the first of many from Silicon Cape. It’s important that we expand our networks and knowledge beyond the borders of South Africa and even Africa,” concludes Rob Gilmour.
