Rehabilitree looks to crowdfunding so that it can plant trees everywhere
We all love trees, right? They keep the air clean, reduce noise pollution, provide food, create shade on a hot summer’s day, and simply look awesome. If you’re nodding your head, you’re probably on the same page as Rehabilitree — a South African tree-planting organisation that’s looking to spread the reforestation love.
Rehabilitree has launched a tree-planting crowdfunding campaign on Thundafund in honour of Women’s Day coming up in August. The main goal is to raise R15 000 so that 300 trees can be planted in Khayelitsha, Cape Town on 7 August.
But it’s more than simply planting trees everywhere though.
This green initiative is also designed as a key activity in the rehabilitation of prisoners in the area, who will plant the trees themselves. They will be provided with information from qualified horticulturists and a team of volunteers to impact their agricultural knowledge.
Part of World Economic Forums’s Cape Town Global Shapers community, Rehabilitree has partnered with The Department of Correctional Services, Riebeek Valley Garden Centre and Kanabo Conservation Link.
“The value of crowdfunding here is to get everyone involved in this process, those you are unable to come help plant trees can help sponsor the trees to be planted. The goal is to plant 300 trees and we need R15 000 to do that.” says CT Shaper Hanri Ehlers.
The aim of this project is to duplicate it on a regional, provincial and eventually national level.
