DEMO Africa competition extends application deadline for startups
Your startup still has time to enter the DEMO Africa competition. One of Africa’s biggest startup pitch events is keeping its application process open for another week from 15 June to 22 June.
The annual event last year saw over 500 applicants of which 40 were chosen to pitch at the conference. Executive producer Harry Hare explains why DEMO Africa has decided to extend the application deadline.
“From experiences, there is always a last minute rush by start-ups to comply. By extending the deadline, we want to give more time for innovators to ensure that their efforts do not go to not waste, thereby boosting their confidence which is what we are about.”
The event will take place on 22 and 26 September at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria. This announcement comes after the DEMO Africa’s innovation tours of 2014. The DEMO Africa team toured through various countries including Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe where it couched startups about how to apply for the event.
The finalists will be based on their abilities to link creativity, innovation, effectiveness and scalability. The chosen 40 startups will have a chance to launch their products to an ecosystem of VCs, investors, tech acquisition specialists, IT buyers and media from across the region and around the globe.
Last year’s notable winners include South Africa’s public transport startup GoMetro and elearning outfit Obami, Kenya’s accomodation startup SleepOut and the Wireless Mobile Phone charger that generates energy for your mobile as you walk.
