India is taking its place as a growing technology powerhouse, with a number of mobile startups looking to make a name for themselves. During this year’s MobiSparks conference, the organizers showcased 14 of the country’s hottest examples.

This growing startup space in India is recognised by global Venture Capital firm, Sequoia Capital whose India head noted the 2013 will be critical for India as majority of the mobile startups in the world will come from the country.
“In the next 12-18 months we will see major global mobile startups emerging from India. Mobile remittances are big in India. Interesting problems waiting for innovative mobile solutions are discovery, healthcare, education, payments and enterprise mobility,” observed Mohit Bhatnagar, MD, Sequoia Capital India.
Jonathan Bill from Vodafone India reckons there needs to be a shift in thinking when it comes to startups in Indian, he suggests that startups need to go beyond cut-and-paste and do original work.
“There’s a lot of stuff that can be opened up for the mass market in India via mobiles. Unfortunately, the rural market is not considered sexy by many urban mobile developers.”
Bill’s call for innovation is echoed by Ramesh Krishnan, head of User Experience Practice in MphasiS who believes that startups need to solve the problems that closer to home.
“We are close to many problems in India, we need to innovate right here,” he says.
MobiSpraks startup showcase serves as a unique platform for mobile entrepreneurs and app developers in India. The top 14 startups were chosen by an expert committee, the chosen startups range from data platforms to mobile payment solutions.

App Me In is committed to building smart phone applications for enterprises. Automapic, the latest app developed by App Me In, has just been launched.
5. SectorQube Technolabs
SectorQube Technolabs has demonstrated the concept of “Android beyond Apps” and delivers customized Android powered electronic solutions.

Uniphore harnesses the power of voice to transform ordinary mobiles into an enterprise-class service delivery platform. Uniphore has 26 enterprise customers and nearly 2 million end users.
