Opinion platform WenaData comes out tops at Seedstars Maputo

Opinion platform WenaData has emerged as the winner of this year’s edition of Seedstars Maputo.

The platform, which launched last December, aims to make it easier to collect statistical data in Mozambique by rewarding survey and poll participants through a points and rewards system. Since its launch, the Maputo-based platform claims to have conducted over 270 polls and 16 surveys.

WenaData was placed first ahead of insurtech Umbrella and New Tech Lab’s Agrolink marketplace which placed second and third respectively.

In all, 10 startups were selected to pitch at the event which was held last Friday (28 September) at the Standard Bank Incubator in the Mozambican capital.

A panel of judges who included Vodacom CFO Chris Curtis, UX Information Technologies co-founder Tiago Borges Coelho and Standard Bank head of investment banking Joao Guirengane selected the winners.

WenaData will next year represent Mozambique at the global Seedstars Summit in Switzerland where it stands to win up to $1-million in equity investments. By winning the Seedstars Maputo event, the startup also landed a ticket to the regional Seedstars Summit which will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in December.

Seedstars World’s next African pitch event is Seedstars Luanda which takes place in the Angolan capital next Friday (12 October).
