Where there is a wine drinker, apparently some beer drinkers will follow? It seems so as wine rating app Real Time Wine (RTW) founder Andy Hadfield teamed up with South African Breweries (SAB) in a project that seeks to accommodate beer drinkers with the launch of MyBeer.

Commissioned by SAB, the app touts itself as “the social community for beer drinkers in South Africa” and encourages you to “share your beer experiences, rate and review beers and find out what your friends are drinking.”
According the RTW, this new offering is aimed at enhancing the beer culture in the country.
“MyBeer is designed to play to the craft beer culture (and mainstream beer of course) in South Africa. It’s about creating the best community of beer drinkers and doing what we’ve always done on the Real Time Wine platform — rate, review, share and discover better products,” says the RTW blog.
RTW claims to be South Africa’s first social discovery wine app with its no bullshit 140-character social wine review site. The app has been making some serious waves since launch with some impressive backers in the form of Angel investor network, Angelhub.
Last year the social discovery app received an undisclosed amount of funding via the network from angel investors such as Michael Jordaan, owner of Bartinney Wines and Mike Ratcliffe, managing director at Warwick Wine Estate.
To launch the beer counterpart of the RTW experience, the fledgling startup teamed up with South African Breweries (SAB), who according to the blog post, sponsored the product.
“We’re super excited to be working with a brand like SAB and targeting this amazing new beer culture which is springing up,” says RTW founder, Andy Hadfield.
“MyBEER, the new online beer community, was commissioned by SAB to encourage beer lovers to share their beer drinking experiences with each other. MyBEER is educational, fun and a valuable resource for old and new beer drinkers alike,” said SAB’s Chief Brewer, Martin Brooks.
“Spurred on by the burgeoning craft beer movement, experimentation with different kinds of beers is a growing trend in South Africa. SAB hopes that MyBEER will broaden the horizons of beer lovers around the country by encouraging this experimentation and promoting knowledge sharing.”
So all you beer drinkers who feel you must rate your beer, have at it.
Update: the app is set to go live on the Apple app store on 27 February.
