Telmap, the Israeli mobile navigation company that was acquired by Intel in 2011, recently announced a partnership with South African mobile rewards company, Mobilitrix.
The deal will allow Telmap users in South Africa to search Mobilitrix’s database of vouchers and coupons, as well as navigate to retailers where the mobile rewards can be redeemed.

Telmap runs on iOS, Android and BlackBerry platforms. While its main feature is navigation, Telmap has a legacy of offering users the ability to find things like restaurants, banks and other points of interest based on proximity.
Mobilitrix was founded in Cape Town in 2007 with the aim of delivering mobile loyalty solutions in the form of coupons & vouchers that reward users through incentivised deals. The company’s Mobilicoupon product offers shoppers a unique coupon number sent via SMS or USSD, either by request or as part of a mobile marketing campaign. The coupon can be redeemed via the handset or at the point of sale of a designated retailer.

The partnership with Telmap appears to be a good match. The seamless integration into Telmap Navigator can prompt a call-to-action and drive users directly retailers. Each offer in Telmap Navigator provides details about the deal, retailer details and the availability of the deal.
“Continuously adding value to our users is at the top of our list and this recent collaboration with Mobilitrix certainly does that for users of Telmap Navigator in South Africa by offering coupons and vouchers all baked into our app,” says Gilad Goldshtein, South Africa Country Manager for Telmap.
Mobilitrix CEO Chris Rolfe says that the ability to reach consumers though smart location based deals as they navigate around the roads of South Africa is an exciting development. “Working with Telmap shows how mobility, intelligent targeting of mobile rewards has now moved to a whole new phase. These are exciting times for the mobile consumer and for retailers and brands,” says Rolfe.
Last year Rolfe, a former CEO of Virgin Active South Africa, spoke to Memeburn about mobile rewards, mobile vouchers and how they affect consumer behaviour. In the the interview Rolfe mentioned Mobilitrix’s calls to action: “the call to action may be found in advertising, at the point-of-sale, or a consumer may be targeted through a direct marketing campaign.” The Telmap partnership now adds “GPS navigation app” to that list.
